VL is a small software company built on a simple observation: the way software gets made has already changed.
What we believe
I've been using AI to write software since the earliest days of ChatGPT. I started with GPT-2, mostly as a way to patch small bugs and get unstuck — and to find out how much it could actually help.
Then I watched it improve, generation after generation. Something that could fix a single bug gradually became something that could hold a large part of a codebase in mind, reason about a problem, write substantial amounts of code, and keep iterating on it.
The release that genuinely changed how I worked was Claude 3.5 Sonnet. That was the first time a model stopped feeling like a code generator and started feeling like a developer I could work alongside.
AI can already handle a great deal of development work at a level that rivals, and sometimes beats, what a person does by hand — particularly in speed, iteration, debugging, research, and working through large volumes of code.
So the advantage isn't knowing how to code anymore. It's knowing how to work with these systems. A developer who does can move dramatically faster than one who doesn't, and the gap widens with every generation.
That's the observation VL is built on. AI isn't a novelty or an optional productivity tool — it's becoming a fundamental part of how software should be built.
What we're building
VL is an early-stage software company. We build products with AI integrated into how they're designed, written, and maintained — not bolted on at the end as a feature.
We're early, and we won't pretend otherwise. There isn't a long list of products or milestones to show you yet. What we can be clear about is what we're building toward: software that is only practical to make because the development process itself is AI-native.
There's more to come.
